[Pecos Expedition]

This is NOT a guided backpacking trip.
 

This is a experience that will make you a better parent, friend, spouse, and team leader.

Expedition Members leave with stronger leadership skills, deeper self-awareness, and practical backcountry confidence—earned through a three-day guided burro expedition in New Mexico wilderness

Team Selection is not based on outdoor experience- it will be determined by attitude, drive, and heart.

Dates: June 5-7 or July 10-12

Price: Expect $1-2k per person

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
 

Pre-Trip Course: A virtual short course to meet your teammates, get to know the schedule and agenda, and identify common communication and leadership principles (2 evenings at home)
 

  • Day 1: Meet your burro buddy near Pecos, NM and hike 6 miles to a beautiful meadow camp.

  • Day 2: We enter the alpine zone and explore the Pecos Wilderness.

  • Day 3: Trek towards the trailhead, stopping on the many scenic overlooks of the ancient Mesas.Return to the vehicles about 4:00PM
     

Post Trip Course: A second virtual short course to debrief the trip, solidify futures goals, and create action plans (1 evening at home)

Gear (Tents, Sleeping Bags, Cooking, etc)

We will use top of the line tents, sleeping bags, tents, and cooking gear from reliable brands such as Sea to Summit and Big Agnes. There are two pricing packages if you would like to bring some of your own items, or rent the high dollar items from us. Collective or community gear (cooking, water filtration, etc) are all provided by us.

TERRAIN

The Pecos Wilderness is intensely beautiful and tasking landscape. We will climb up about 1,500ft per day at a manageable pace. You will wake up to incredible views of 10,000ft peaks in every direction

WEIGHT LIMITS

This trip is best thought of as a backpacking trip assisted with burros. Although the burros can carry over 70lbs we still have to be considerate of our collective cargo weight. Each person is limited to 40lbs of personal gear.

PERSONAL GEAR YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE:

  • Sturdy medium backpack

  • Reliable Boots or trekking shoes

  • Daily Clothes + Warm Layers

  • Rain Jacket

  • Toiletries & Medicines

  • Phone Charger

  • A book, journal, or camera

  • Full packing list provided

WILDERNESS SKILLS & ADVENTURE

You will pack your burro and guide them to our next destination each day. Our team will have modern gear, but learn the traditional skills and navigation expertise to compete the expedition.

Team members are selected based on readiness, mindset, and alignment with the expedition’s goals—not prior experience alone

Midsummer we can expect a variety of weather including warm afternoons, refreshing summer monsoons, and bright stary nights.

Your guide, Shane Weigand, is a former EMT, Wildland Firefighter, and experienced backcountry athlete.

YOUR BURRO TEAMMATE

Our burros are experienced, safe, and great trail companions. You will be responsible for their packing and daily care during the expedition.
